Kino 49 is coming up on Wednesday 27th March from 7.30 with another collection of great shorts. There are no themes and no pre-selection of the films they show. They ask only that films be under 6 minutes, on dvd, and include the Kino London logo (just for the screening). They also stipulate that the filmmaker should be there on the night, of course,… to stand up and say “Hi, I made this!” If you’d like to screen at Kino #49 drop Laura a line at screen@kinolondon.com. Rockkiss Digital Media Entertainment release their new game Grump’s Quest on Kickstarter

Grump’s Quest on Kickstarter

Digital animation and VFX studio Rockkiss Digital Media Entertainment are launching a new cinematic adventure game titled ‘Grump’s Quest’ to the crowd funding site, Kickstarter.com. Destined for the PC and Mac with versions also planned for the mobile tablets the game will utilise all the power of next generation platforms. The inspiration hails from the landmark games of the past like the amazing Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, also coincidently created by a VFX company. The game will take the form of a side scrolling adventure utilising incredibly detailed artwork, intercut with some amazing animated cinematic sequences. However, the game is far from being just an interactive movie. Grump’s Quest will host a wealth of highly developed and strong characters in the format of immersive and strategic game play. Of note on this project is Rockkiss’s desire to open up the development of the game to its backers and there are case studies on much of the production pipeline on their website.

The idea of creating a new world with new characters and opening up the process to the players at an early stage is very unusual. There will also be a great challenge in developing the game for the large array of different mobile formats there are now. However, Rockkiss are confident in having a strong team of industry veterans and feel they are uniquely placed to deliver a landmark game.

News About Rushes Soho Shorts 2013

For many years we have helped spread the word about Rushes Soho Shorts, an excellent short film festival held every year in London. Unfortunately, there won’t be one this year and we wanted to forward on their message on this and to thank them for some great films and events.

“Sadly we have to announce that we will not be holding RSSF 2013. The festival has been a passionate commitment for 14 years; the decision has not been easy to make. We sincerely THANK YOU for your support, for entering your films, for coming to our screenings and events. We’ve had a huge amount of fun meeting everyone over the years and truly appreciate all the films that have been entered for consideration – whether shortlisted or not. Having had the opportunity to see everyone’s work has been a huge privilege and biggest highlight of our year, each year. We want to keep our festival family together. While the festival is discontinued the social media sites will remain – continuing to promote news, screenings and events from the short film world and the festival community. Greenhorn At The Dugout

Greenhorn Short Film Festival is happy to announce a short film programme to be screened at The Dugout, an affiliated Inclusive Women’s Arts Festival. The screening will take place on Saturday 2nd March 2013 at the Hoxton Arches between 11.30am – 5.30pm. The film programme will run alongside a day of inclusive workshops, exhibitions, stalls and collaborative projects. The Dugout is organised and run collaboratively by women with and without learning disabilities and Barnet Mencap.

The Dugout aims to…

>provide a platform for female creativity

>support women with learning disabilities to better access artistic opportunities

>provide a space for women to collaborate and share skills

SCI-FI-LONDON 48 Hour Film Challenge

Over the last four years the SCI-FI-LONDON Film Festival has run a 48hour Film Challenge and we have had over 380 films completed, many of which have gone to other film festivals and been broadcast on TV. The challenge takes place a few weeks before the film festival so they can judge all the entries and the winning films can be screened at the festival. The jury this year includes Benedict Cumberbatch (SHERLOCK), Brad Wyman (Producer, MONSTER) and Guillermo Del Toro.

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

CHALLENGE STARTS 10.00AM, SAT 6 APRIL

Taking part is easy. Get a crew together, scout some locations, prep your cast and be ready to make a 5 minute short film in just 48 hours. They will ask your team to come to the BFI Southbank on Saturday 6 April at 10.00am where they give you the TITLE of the film you will make, some DIALOGUE that one of your characters must say to screen, and a list of PROPS that must be seen in the film. They also give you an optional scientific theme… this could be nano-tech, cloning, gene-splicing…or something a little more “fringe”. Once you have all your elements, you have until Monday morning to return the completed movie to them. You can either deliver it to the BFI or send it via the Internet (wetransfer).

Kino Shorts Manchester

Kino Manchester are please to announce our new season of Kino Shorts begining on 27th Feb at the 3MT retro theatre on Oldham Street in the heart of the Northern Quarter.

They are looking for short films to this event NOW! Films are selected in advance for quality and uniqueness so filmmakers should contact them for an application form and for details of how to submit your film, which is by DVD screener only (there is no fee).

Films can be any genre as long as they are completed in the last 12 months and no longer than 20… mins. Fiction, animation, experimental, documentary, artist film and video and music videos are elligible.

Their nights feature short Q&A’s with the filmmakers after each film when the filmmaker is available. For those submitting a film from outside the region who cannot make the trip to the event we often propose a Skype Q&A. Raindance Submissions – Now Open

The Raindance Film Festival is now accepting submissions for their 21st annual festival taking place from 25th September – 6th October 2013 in London. They accept narrative and documentary features and shorts, as well as music videos and they’re very proud of their history as a launchpad for new and independent filmmakers. Films In The City Event Round Up

The October Non-Multiplex Cinema Films in The City Event: “Want to get your films into festivals? Here’s How!” was a great success and everyone had a fun and informative night!

Some us even got to extend the fun getting stuck in a malfunctioning lift with bags of booze at the end of the night – all in all, good times!

The panel discussion with our in-house host Ruth Doyle, Producer; Rebekah Smith, Film Festival Doctor; Philip Ilson, London Short Film Festival and Ross Domoney, Director of “The High Price of Gold” was well received by the audience and a big thank you to the guests for sharing their time and experiences with everyone. “The High Price of Gold” is currently doing really well on the festival circuit.

Thank you to all the filmmakers who submitted their short films and to everyone who had their films screened on the night! The short film ‘audience favourite’ award went to Sheila Menon and Alexander Munro, the Directors for “No Way Out”. They won a bottle of wine and 2 tickets to a Royal Shakespeare Company production. Congrats & Enjoy!

NEWS ALERT – FILM COMPETITION: The winner of the Non-Multiplex Cinema Short Film Competition with www.thefilmfestivaldoctor.co.uk is Deloris Collins for “Once Upon A Time”! She wins a free consultation with (The Film Festival Doctor) Rebekah Smith & will be given advice on how to design an effective and bespoke festival strategy for her film.

Our next Films in The City Event will be 7 Feb 2013 – more news on film submissions and what will be taking place on the night soon! The Event Producers, Mark Slater & Ruth Doyle, will be announcing details in December.
