A Rare Chance To See Shakespeare’s King John
We’re delighted to let you know about this chance to see Shakespeare’s King John. Following the success of last year’s TIME OUT CRITICS CHOICE, five star, sell out production of the Shakespeare rediscovery DOUBLE FALSHOOD, award winning director Phil Willmott blows the dust off the bard’s unjustly neglected historical thriller. Combining the sweep of Henry V, the pitch black humour of Richard III, and all the court intrigue of Elsinore, King John is the story of a desperate monarch who’ll stop at nothing – lies, murder, even outright war – to strengthen his weakening grip on the kingdoms of England and France. Last year’s modern world premiere of the disputed Shakespeare romance Double Falsehood received international press and TV coverage and demand for tickets was so great it transferred to the West End for an extra week of performances; so early booking is recommended. A rare opportunity to experience a powerful fast moving study of monarchy in meltdown, unseen in London since the RSC’s 2001 production. The play runs from 17th January to 11th February at the Union Theatre near London’s Southbank. All the info is here http://www.kingjohnplay.com/ and facebook details are here http://www.facebook.com/pages/King-John-a-rare-chance-to-experience-Shakespeares-neglected-masterpiece/196593150420348
Red Light Revolution – Special Screening
Get festive and celebrate Chinese New Year with a quirky comedy that the press say “…is as close as anyone will ever get to a Chinese FULL MONTY.” The UK is the first territory in the world to officially release this film, so come see it before it’s even released in Asia. Bored of the usual Hollywood multiplex entertainment? Try something different with this East meets West comedy. Unemployed Beijinger, Shunzi fired from his cab company and finding his wife with another man, decides to risk it all and opens a sex toy shop, much to the disappointment of his parents. At first battling with blow up dolls, and getting to grips with some of the vibrating merchandise, he soon realises that not only has he become a victim of a high pressured sales operation (with a gangster like supplier), but his neighbourhood is very conservative and inhabited by an ageing population. Slowly though, he starts to win them over and unites the community, but will he convert enough of them to customers to pay off the gangsters? A humorous clash of the Chinese traditional etiquette with modern sexual values. “Sex. Shagging. Making love. Whatever you want to call it, everyone does it.” – Time Out Magazine If you love independent cinema, help spread the word to your friends! One off screening at the Prince Charles Cinema on Monday 23rd January at 9pm. For tickets please purchase in person at the cinema or online www.PrinceCharlesCinema.com. The Millionth Monkey’s Movie has Launched
They say give a million monkeys a typewriter and one will come up with the works of Shakespeare, but what if you gave them a movie camera? Would we get the next Tarantino? Could YOU be the Millionth Monkey? Filmmakers (D-Media) and Film Fans (Close-Up Film) have come together to challenge our perceptions of how great movie ideas are born. Start with an idea, a character, a place, a plot, a sketch. Post it on the website. Tell your Facebook friends, Tweet family, and anyone else you can reach, to see if they are intrigued enough to come and have a look. Get them involved, sharing ideas, passing comments, or just having a look. Add to, alter and develop your movie pitch and see how many people you can get wanting to see it on the big screen. The more interest you get the higher you move up the leader board. Ultimately, the movie concept with the most fans wins. Running over three months, from 6th December 2011, entrants first build up support for their movie concept. Voting opens on 1st February 2012 and no new projects can be submitted to the site. Voters can vote for as many of the pitches as they like, but only once for each idea. The leader board will show the top ten projects each week.
