Vintage Kino coming this Tuesday

The next Vintage Kino event will be at Manchester’s The Three Minute Theatre, Aflecks Arcade, Oldham Street, M1 1JG. They’ve trawled though their archive of 16mm film cans to put a memorable film proramme together.
 
They promise you won’t be disappointed. Even come in vintage dress to suit if you so wish (not obligatory but feel free to dress as you wish to suit the ambiance of the night).

Expect as usual some Pathe News reels to kick of the programme followed by some vintage animation, classic comedy and some real curios peieces from their education and information archive. They’ll also have a rarely sceened award winning short film.

Doors open at 7.30 to give you time to relax and get in the mood to some vintage music and drinks will be served by the delightful Gina (proprietor of this fine establishment).

Tickets: Just £3.50 on the door (unfortunately, they don’t accept vintage coins or notes!)

Programme starts at 7.45 – ish and there will be an intermission half way. Expect FREE ICE CREAM in the intermission and the the whirl of the projector in the background.

Snakegully’s Chillout Sunday – Coming Soon!

Snakegully Productions is to host another short film afternoon in a relaxed informal manner.

The date is Sunday 17th June from 2pm onwards and the event will go on until the early evening. They are looking for shorts films of all genres, animation, music videos, mocumentary, documentary, art films or film trailers for new features.

Three Border Triathlon

We’re delighted to let you know about this great fundraising effort by one of the Non-Multiplex Cinema team. Nadine Horn’s Three Border Triathlon. On the 21st of April she will be setting out to embark on a triathlon over three countries, cycling across Switzerland by bike (~460Km), swimming along the Danube (~550km) and running across Austria (~315Km). Her aim is to raise funds for the Danube, engage people to join and support the project world-wide by grabbing one of the cool T-shirts. It’s the combination of adventure and fundraising, documenting it along the way with an HD Go Pro underwater camera and other equipment to then share it with everyone. In Motion

We are delighted to help raise the profile of In Motion – an independent UK feature film currently raising funds. In Motion is a love story between Leon, a British artistic gymnast, and Bao, a Chinese rhythmic gymnast, set in London against the backdrop of an international sporting event. The budget for this film is £250,000 and so far they have raised £60,000 through private investment. They still have many other avenues of funding to explore and due to the strength of the story and the script they are sure they will raise the rest of the budget in the next few months. They are also running a ‘crowd-funding’ campaign to raise £8,000 of the budget. Currently they have raised £1,300 through this scheme, however the pitch is only live for another 2 weeks. They have the full support of Len Arnold who is the chairman of London gymnastics, and Ex-Olympic gymnast Hannah Mckibben has been working with them on the script and will play a major part in the film as the choreographer. In Motion is a really beautiful film that will boost the profile of gymnastics in a very positive light. The main themes are; breaking down cultural barriers, success through sport and courage in the face of adversity. Non-Multiplex Cinema’s Film & Music Breakthrough

Two of our goals this year are to help new filmmakers break into feature filmmaking and to help grow ties between independent filmmakers and musicians. You’ll already have seen the details of our Breakthrough event coming up later this month as well details of our latest music video production. And the perfect introduction to this is through the song “Breakthrough” by Public Symphony. Their acclaimed debut album was remastered and rereleased in 2010 to wide critical praise and their work has been used in films and TV. They would welcome the chance to work with independent filmmakers. Latest Non-Multiplex Cinema Production Now Online

Our latest production is the official music video for the Anglo-Swedish band Tender Objects new release and can now be seen online. Tender Objects are a jangly indiepop band from the UK and Sweden influenced by 80s and 90s guitar-infused tunes by bands such as Orange Juice, The Smiths, and The Cardigans. The song April Showers is one of two songs by Tender Objects on the Dufflecoat Records split CD EP with Indonesian indiepop band Funny Little Dream which has already sold out! We’ll let you know details about it’s further availability soon. The Trip TV alternative music blog says of this song: “a beautiful pop thrash reminding me a bit of the likes of Tsunami”. And while saying the EP is “gorgeous”, Chris who writes the blog says the band are full of “pop joy but with a shot of added punk-pop drive”. The video was made by Niall Urquhart, Alys Rowe and Paul Turtill and starred Hermione Halpin. It’s also a collaboration that came about as a direct result of networking at a Non-Multiplex Cinema event! Thanks to all involved.

Terracotta Festival – Coming Soon

TerracottaOne of our favourite festivals, the Terracotta Festival, is coming up soon with it’s 2012 edition. This years festival takes place once again at the Prince Charles Cinema, London, although at an early date of 12 – 15 April. If you couldn’t come to previous editions due to exams, this year, there’s no excuse!

Opening the festival will be WW2 blockbuster MY WAY, reported as the most expensive Korean film ever made. The plot follows the stellar multi-country cast of Jang Dong-gun, Joe Odagiri and Fan Bing Bing across the battlefields of Asia to the beaches of Normandy. Directed by Kang je-kyu (SHIRI, TAEGUKI).

HIMIZU directed by Sono Sion (COLD FISH, LOVE EXPOSURE) and set in post-tsunami Fukushima, will close the festival.

Of particular interest will be their “discovery” series. ONE MILE ABOVE and RETURN TO BURMA are films shot in little explored regions of Asia by British people – Yunna to Lhasa bike ride and Burma, respectively

Expect the usual mix of parties, actors and directors and masterclasses. One new addition to the festival will be a TERROR COTTA HORROR NIGHT on Friday 13th – a triple bill horror-fest, with a few extras thrown in, that lasts till early hours of the morning! More details to follow.
