About Julian Bushell

Founder of Non-Multiplex Cinema and creator of FILM MEANS BUSINESS. Now starting a new way to make film called "Blur the line". It takes the workshop environment of experimentation and learning and marries that with cinema quality equipment, filming at actual locations when possible. The end result is a scene the same as or as close as possible to the quality of a real production.

Exclusive Interview with Lynne Paris, Writer and Director of AH Men
Q:-This must have been a traumatic experience for you. What made you tell your story publicly?
A:- I was asked to, and because I know how isolated wives of transexuals can feel I decided to go public to reach out and support other women who find themselves in my position. To give them hope and self respect back.
Q:- How do you plan to support wives?
A:- I’ve developed a Helpline network of Counsellors , Relationship Coaches and spiritual resource which will make sense of what has happened to them. It’s a time of growth and transition for wives as well to reach their full potential. It’s hard for women, if their husband wants a sex change, to understand that they can also revolutionise their lives – have their own transition, in a way.
Q :- But surely a wife can refuse to agree to her husband having a sex change unless she feels comfortable with the idea?
A:- You’d expect so, but legislation was passed in Europe making it unnecessary for a man to have the consent of his wife before he has a sex change. A man can be a long way down the treatment route without his wife even knowing. What happened to me could happen to any woman.
Q: How can women access the Helpline?
A:- Details will shortly be published on the AH Men website www.ahmen.co.uk
Q: What are your plans for AH Men?
A:- AH Men is attracting attention from many Diversity Groups, at home and abroad because it explores issues around The Equality Act and Protected Characteristics in a uniquely insightful and humorous way. We’ve received a couple of enquiries about making a film. I guess we’ll just see what comes along.

Rockkiss Digital Media Entertainment release their new game Grump’s Quest on Kickstarter

Grump’s Quest on Kickstarter

Digital animation and VFX studio Rockkiss Digital Media Entertainment are launching a new cinematic adventure game titled ‘Grump’s Quest’ to the crowd funding site, Kickstarter.com. Destined for the PC and Mac with versions also planned for the mobile tablets the game will utilise all the power of next generation platforms. The inspiration hails from the landmark games of the past like the amazing Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, also coincidently created by a VFX company. The game will take the form of a side scrolling adventure utilising incredibly detailed artwork, intercut with some amazing animated cinematic sequences. However, the game is far from being just an interactive movie. Grump’s Quest will host a wealth of highly developed and strong characters in the format of immersive and strategic game play. Of note on this project is Rockkiss’s desire to open up the development of the game to its backers and there are case studies on much of the production pipeline on their website.

http://www.rockkiss.co.uk/Projects_Grumps_Quest.html

The idea of creating a new world with new characters and opening up the process to the players at an early stage is very unusual. There will also be a great challenge in developing the game for the large array of different mobile formats there are now. However, Rockkiss are confident in having a strong team of industry veterans and feel they are uniquely placed to deliver a landmark game.
So for anyone with an interest in animation, VFX or games look out for Grump’s Quest on Kickstarter.com and get involved.

cgiCITY event summary – so many highlights

Hi,

Want to say big thanks to anyone who came down to Non-Multiplex Cinema’s first cgiCITY event. Being the first, like the audience, I didn’t know what to expect.

cgiCITY 5/9/2012

It was really enlightening to see how Will Rockall and John Sellings, who gave the talk, broke down scenes in their films, going through some quite detailed steps. They were like the masked magicians. More…

The Sales Revolution! – film networking and panel event

The Sales Revolution - film networking and panel event

Tuesday 17th July (7pm – 10pm)
Deloitte Auditorium, 1st Floor, 2 New Street square, London EC4A 3TR

A film each from our panel of four (clockwise in the picture above starting top-right):

HEART OF SKY, HEART OF EARTH (Film Republic) – This documentary brings beautifully into profile the ending, in December 2012, of a great cycle in the ancient Mayan calendar. The Mayan people, their identity still intact, make poignant comparisons between ancient and modern perspectives. Umbrella Films, distributed in Germany.

A SERBIAN FILM (Jinga Films) – This film has been repeatedly banned throughout the world for the horrific and cruel nature of some of its scenes. It’s about a guy who, desperate to feed his family, is exploited by the porn industry and who becomes involved in the staggeringly depraved vision of a porn film director. Picked up by Revolver Entertainment.

COLIN (Left Films) – This staggeringly successful zombie film, distributed worldwide, was made for a reputed budget of £45 and deals with a zombie’s plight, uniquely, from a zombie point of view. A classic of its genre.

THE SAPPHIRES (Goalpost Films) – This film was recently picked up by The Weistein Company and was successfully screened at Cannes earlier this year. It is based on a true story of the 60s, about four Aboriginal girls who, for a while, became Australia’s answer to The Supremes and were sent to Vietnam to entertain the troops. It’s a classic story about youth and music, family and emotion. To be released in November of this year (IMDb).

Our panel of film sales professionals, Nicki Parfitt, Julian Richards, Xavier Rashid and Helen Grace will be answering questions about how they choose films and how they sell them.

Critical information and contact-making in today’s bitterly competitive market.

We would like you to be there. To reserve your place on-line for just £14.95, please go here.

The Bombay Sapphire Imagination Series: Short Film Competition

Bombay Sapphire Imagine – Oscar-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher gives you his latest script and asks you to direct it. Bombay Sapphire and Tribeca Film Festival are offering 5 budding filmmakers the chance to make that dream a reality. Submit your take on the Imagination Series script before August 1st here: ow.ly/1Obp4o Absent of all director’s notes, such as genre, characters, location etc, we are inviting budding filmmakers to submit a treatment for the script, for the chance to have it produced with a big budget and a premier in 2013. An international judging panel, including Geoffrey Fletcher and other industry leaders assembled by the Tribeca Film Festival, will select five winners from a shortlist of entries. Besides the rare experience of working with film industry folk at the top of their game, the Imagination Series rewards each winner’s imagineering with the budget to make their film and bring it to the big screen. You can find out more about the competition, read the script and submit your treatment here.
