Kino 48 is coming up on Wednesday 27th February from 7.30 with another collection of great shorts. There are no themes and no pre-selection of the films they show. They ask only that films be under 6 minutes, on dvd, and include the Kino London logo (just for the screening). They also stipulate that the filmmaker should be there on the night, of course,… to stand up and say “Hi, I made this!” If you’d like to screen at Kino #48 drop Laura a line at screen@kinolondon.com. Greenhorn At The Dugout
Greenhorn Short Film Festival is happy to announce a short film programme to be screened at The Dugout, an affiliated Inclusive Women’s Arts Festival. The screening will take place on Saturday 2nd March 2013 at the Hoxton Arches between 11.30am – 5.30pm. The film programme will run alongside a day of inclusive workshops, exhibitions, stalls and collaborative projects. The Dugout is organised and run collaboratively by women with and without learning disabilities and Barnet Mencap.

SCI-FI-LONDON 48 Hour Film Challenge
Over the last four years the SCI-FI-LONDON Film Festival has run a 48hour Film Challenge and we have had over 380 films completed, many of which have gone to other film festivals and been broadcast on TV. The challenge takes place a few weeks before the film festival so they can judge all the entries and the winning films can be screened at the festival. The jury this year includes Benedict Cumberbatch (SHERLOCK), Brad Wyman (Producer, MONSTER) and Guillermo Del Toro.

CHALLENGE STARTS 10.00AM, SAT 6 APRIL
Taking part is easy. Get a crew together, scout some locations, prep your cast and be ready to make a 5 minute short film in just 48 hours. They will ask your team to come to the BFI Southbank on Saturday 6 April at 10.00am where they give you the TITLE of the film you will make, some DIALOGUE that one of your characters must say to screen, and a list of PROPS that must be seen in the film. They also give you an optional scientific theme… this could be nano-tech, cloning, gene-splicing…or something a little more “fringe”. Once you have all your elements, you have until Monday morning to return the completed movie to them. You can either deliver it to the BFI or send it via the Internet (wetransfer).

Kino Shorts Manchester
Kino Manchester are please to announce our new season of Kino Shorts begining on 27th Feb at the 3MT retro theatre on Oldham Street in the heart of the Northern Quarter.
They are looking for short films to this event NOW! Films are selected in advance for quality and uniqueness so filmmakers should contact them for an application form and for details of how to submit your film, which is by DVD screener only (there is no fee).
Films can be any genre as long as they are completed in the last 12 months and no longer than 20… mins. Fiction, animation, experimental, documentary, artist film and video and music videos are elligible.
Their nights feature short Q&A’s with the filmmakers after each film when the filmmaker is available. For those submitting a film from outside the region who cannot make the trip to the event we often propose a Skype Q&A. Films In The City Event Round Up
The October Non-Multiplex Cinema Films in The City Event: “Want to get your films into festivals? Here’s How!” was a great success and everyone had a fun and informative night!
Some us even got to extend the fun getting stuck in a malfunctioning lift with bags of booze at the end of the night – all in all, good times!
The panel discussion with our in-house host Ruth Doyle, Producer; Rebekah Smith, Film Festival Doctor; Philip Ilson, London Short Film Festival and Ross Domoney, Director of “The High Price of Gold” was well received by the audience and a big thank you to the guests for sharing their time and experiences with everyone. “The High Price of Gold” is currently doing really well on the festival circuit.
Thank you to all the filmmakers who submitted their short films and to everyone who had their films screened on the night! The short film ‘audience favourite’ award went to Sheila Menon and Alexander Munro, the Directors for “No Way Out”. They won a bottle of wine and 2 tickets to a Royal Shakespeare Company production. Congrats & Enjoy!

She wins a free consultation with (The Film Festival Doctor) Rebekah Smith & will be given advice on how to design an effective and bespoke festival strategy for her film.

London Feminist Film Festival – Coming This Week!
The London Feminist Film Festival celebrates feminist filmmakers past and present. The first festival is 29 Nov – 2 Dec 2012.
The London Feminist Film Festival was set up as a response to the underrepresentation of women in the film industry, as well as to the lack of films addressing feminist issues and the fact that the representation of women on screen is often narrow and stereotypical. They want to celebrate women creatives whilst ensuring that this feminist ethos also extends to the films they show. The festival will be a celebration of feminist films past and present. Their aim is to inspire discussion about feminism and film, to support women directors, and to get feminist films seen by a wider audience.
They are pleased to announce the very first London Feminist Film Festival, which will take place at Hackney Picturehouse over the long weekend of 29 November to 2 December 2012. They will be screening feminist shorts and feature films from women directors around the world, including films by up-and-coming directors as well as feminist classics. Each film session will be accompanied by a panel discussion featuring prominent filmmakers, feminists, academics, and arts critics.

Secret City – Coming Soon
Secret City, a documentary film about the City Of London, the Corporation that runs it and its role in the economic crisis.
As the economic crisis has drawn attention to the machinations of financial institutions, director, Michael Chanan, and writer, Lee Salter, have produced a feature length documentary film about the secretive institutions at the heart of the City of London and the impact these have on people’s lives.
The film is a story about the development of the Corporation of London through the ages, landing in the present. Using interviews with politicians, businessmen, vicars (including from Bethnal Green and Hackney), activists and analysts it tells the story of the consolidation of the City’s power in the world economy, its role in the crisis and its effects on people and institutions. The score includes original music by Simon Zagorski-Thomas and the Vaults Quartet. The film uses some impressive archive footage including William Raban’s MMX, Anthont Simmon’s Bow Bells, and the Dream of Toyland from 1907.

2013 Bristol Shakespeare Festival
The Bristol Shakespeare Festival is a Community Interest Company (CIC), approaching it’s 10th season in 2013 (Friday 28th of June – Sunday 14th of July) and run by a team of dedicated volunteers, passionate about bringing the freshest, most exciting productions of Shakespeare’s plays to some of Bristols’s most beautiful and unusual spaces every summer.
They are striving to continue to programme the highest quality touring productions, which has been the mainstay of their festival since it’s conception. But their primary target for 2013 is to build partnerships, coordinate events and explore new performances and projects, to foster a stronger and more sustainable relationship with the Bristol cmmunity and engage with an ever-increasing and diverse audience.
Their ‘Shakespearances’ involve a diversity of media, from flashmob Shakespeare, bard-busts, film, stand-up comedy, graffiti, queer theatre, Shakespeare in sign, symposiums, art, music and pubs!

Calling all filmmakers – do you have a short film that you are dying to show the world?
Rotoreliefs are looking for interesting short films (max 15mins) of any style and genre (from music videos, animation and documentary to experimental, comedy and fiction) to be screened at their wonderfully informal and lively SHORT FILM SCREENING & NETWORKING EVENT, held on the last Monday of every month @ The Rich Mix in Behtnal Green.
ROTORELIEFS is a platform for independent filmmakers and video artists to gather, to showcase films, and to share ideas, experiences, tips, methods and advice. Their aim is to help demystify and break down the barriers in the filming industry; to promote emerging filmmakers; and to inspire new filmmakers, by showcasing a broad spectrum of films from new, emerging and established talent, and by creating a dialogue between the audience and filmmaker.
Their wonderfully lively and informal monthly event always attracts interesting and interested individuals; promising a good crowd with a great vibe. They always invite the filmmakers to give a short Q&A after each film, and our commitment to screen all genres means there’s always something for everyone.
